Before I came to this class, I knew that symbolism is used in lots of different ways. There are some old paintings that depict war or some sort of catastrophe happening. I think when I do art, I typically just do it for fun. There's never really any special meaning behind my artwork.
Since I've been here, I've learned more about how artists use symbolism, and I've incorporated some symbolism into my own artwork. For example, in one drawing I did, it symbolises how something that looks safe can be very dangerous. This lies hand in hand with the popular belief that people of the Islamic faith are all terrorists. It disgusts me that people believe this, so I decided to make my artwork about that. It features a little girl running towards a slow loris, a very cute, but venomous creature. It shows that since people think all Muslims are terrorists, it makes people think that only they're capable of terrorism, when people like them are equally as capable.

When I first came to Art 1, I had no idea what a blending stump was, and shading was not my expertise. After using th technique for a while, I've gotten slightly better at shading.
I don't think I would change anything about the class. I learned a lot just the way it is. I learned that there's many different way to express your artwork, and I realized how much I like painting. I've really enjoyed this class. The projects were really fun, and I'm happy to have been in a student in Art 1.
